Great British Car Journeys
GREAT BRITISH CAR JOURNEY

The great British Car Journey is a start-up visitor attraction planned to open in Ambergate in 2020. Visitors will undertake a ten-stage journey taking them through the significant eras of British car history.

From Herbert Austin’s inspired design of the first car available for the working family in the 1920s to the ultimate failure of all of the British –owned volume car makers , the journey will feature the men and the motors at the heart of the drama.

At weekends and other selected days, the exhibits will burst back into life as visitors take advantage of the “Drive Dad’s Car” Experience when they can drive a specially laid out route in a car or cars that take them back in time.

Drive Dad's Car
DRIVE DAD’S CAR

It might be DAD’S car, MUM’s car, your first car, the one in which you took your test, or even the one you always wanted. One thing is certain: none had climate or cruise control, and on narrow tyres and drum brakes, you will need to be in control!

Welcome to the world of Drive Dad’s Car: wind-up windows, steamed-up windows, manual chokes, 4-speed gearboxes …and an altogether more lively driving experience. Power steering and airbags are still in the future so keep that speed down!

Whatever you drive will have been built in Britain. It might be the iconic Mini which captured the hearts of a generation or the unloved Allegro which certainly didn’t! This is your personal trip down Memory Lane commemorated by on board digital footage.

Blyton Park
BLYTON PARK

Blyton Park was conceived and build by Richard Usher as a fast, challenging but ultimately forgiving circuit. Blyton Park offers an unrivalled opportunity for drivers of all levels to practice car control in a safe and friendly environment.

With very little in the way of Armco barriers, banks and pit walls, Blyton’s flowing track plays host to multiple motorsport events, driving experiences, track days, manufacturer testing and much more.

In 2009 Richard re-united with Eddie Hoare with whom he had run the Oxford University Motor Drivers Club in the 1970s and asked Eddie to help produce the Official launch and to support the business going forward. Eddie introduced Mazda on Track who went to be one of the track’s biggest supporters over 10 years. It was at Blyton that Eddie and Richard conceived Drive Dad’s Car.
